OUR STORY
A. Emmink Professional Corporation (AEPC) is a paralegal firm that provides legal services related to claims for Workplace Safety and Insurance, Long-Term Disability, and/or Canada Pension Plan Disability.
The business began as a consulting service in 1988 by Andy Emmink, and became incorporated in 1992 (formerly A. Emmink Associates Ltd.). Around 1996, Andy's focus turned to providing services for emergency response workers , at which time he began representing members of a large police association in appeals before the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) and Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal (WSIAT). Other police associations across the province subsequently also retained AEPC to assist and represent their members with WSIB matters and appeals. Our services expanded to include assistance with long-term disability insurance and CPP disability claims.
In 2002, Undine Taylor and Kelly Vieira joined the firm, and AEPC later expanded to the point where we currently have 7 senior paralegals and an office administrator on staff.

Undine and Kelly began to manage the day-to-day operations of the business in July 2014, when Andy Emmink retired. Effective January 9, 2017, ownership of the firm was taken over entirely by Undine and Kelly, who are equal partners in the business.

Most of our paralegals previously worked for the WSIB, with many having been Appeals Resolution Officers. We therefore have vast knowledge and understanding of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, and WSIB policies and practices.
All of our paralegals are licenced and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
Over the years, we have provided legal services to the memberships of approximately 20 police associations across the province and continue to do so as needed. We have also helped many private clients.
Having worked with the police associations for so many years, we have developed an intimate understanding of emergency response work and the physical and psychological injuries that can be unique to that line of work.
We are passionate about the work that we do and look forward to continuing to provide legal services for individuals who may need help with disability insurance matters.
MEET THE TEAM
KELLY VIEIRA
Managing Paralegal/Director
Kelly gained first-hand adjudicative expertise during her approximately 15 years with the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) where she worked as a Claims Adjudicator, Technical Advisor, and Decision Review Specialist in the Appeals Branch. After leaving the WSIB, she worked in the field of health and safety for approximately six years as a WSIB Consultant, helping to design return to work programs and representing employers in appeals.
Kelly joined A. Emmink Professional Corporation in late 2002. She became a licenced paralegal in 2008. Kelly has extensive experience representing workers in appeals before the WSIB and Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal.

From July 2014 to January 2017, while continuing to handle an active caseload, including many that involved various complex issues in dispute, Kelly directed the firm’s services in a co-management role with Undine Taylor. As of January 9, 2017, Kelly and Undine purchased the firm. Kelly now oversees the business operations and services, while also maintaining a caseload.
